Gender issues in the tourism sector
A ‘problem’ of equality or of new opportunities for the growth of the sector?

27th September 2010
University of Aveiro

Aims

Women are the majority of graduates in tourism studies in Portugal. However, the majority of top-level and best paid positions in the labour market are filled by men. This situation raises not only ethical issues, but also economic ones, since this gap suggests that the most-skilled human resources are being untapped. This seminar aimed at discussing the factors inhibiting women’s vertical mobility in the tourism sector, at discussing the persistence of these trends, as well as at providing solutions.
