Together with the Editorial Board of the Journal Tourism & Development (Revista Turismo & Desenvolvimento), the project team planned and published a special issue entirely devoted to the topics gender and tourism. Following a special call for papers, 13 articles, work of 23 authors from 5 different countries, were selected for publication in the 23rd volume of the journal (the 3rd thematic issue of RT&D).

These articles shared a common focus on gender issues in the labour market, namely within the tourism sector, covering topics such as: qualification and mobility of human resources, gendered patterns in job or career development, gender imbalance in leadership, gender pay gap, gender roles and women’s participation in the labour market, social responsibility, female entrepreneurship, gender-related occupational segregation, digital gender gap, consumer behaviour in tourism, among others.

RT&D is an editorial project of the Department of Economics, Management, Industrial Engineering and Tourism of the University of Aveiro, published twice a year since 2004. It was the first journal created in Portugal, aiming specifically for the tourism area. Its mission is to provide the knowledge and research produced in this area. RT&D is already included in the following abstracting and indexing services: CAPES, Latindex, Dialnet, CIRC, EBSCO, CAB International, IndexCopernicus International, CIRET, getCITED e Google Scholar.
